Sri Lankan Coconut Crab Curry Recipe

Sri Lankan crab is famous throughout the region for its size and texture of the meat. Fresh crabs, so plentiful in the seas here, are simmered to perfection in a spiced coconut curry gravy.

Ingredients :

500 ml

100 g

2 tsp

1/2 tsp

1 tsp

2 tsp

1/2 tsp

Large Sri Lankan crabs

Thick coconut milk

Water

Red onion, sliced

Green chilies, chopped

Curry leaf

Roasted curry powder

Turmeric powder

Chili powder

Fenugreek

Tamarind pulp soaked in 2 tbsp water, stirred and strained

Mustard powder

Juice of one lime

Salt and pepper to taste

 

Method :

  • Prepare crabs by cleaning thoroughly and dividing each into 4 portions and place in a large pan.

  • Add all the ingredients, except the coconut milk, mustard powder, lime juice and salt.

  • Bring to a boil and then add the coconut milk and return the mixture to simmer gently  for approx. 20 minutes.

  • Add lime juice, mustard and salt and stir for a few minutes until flavors are married.

  • Remove from heat and serve hot.
