Garam Masala Recipe

How to make garam masala.

Ingredients

80 g Cumin seeds
2 tbsp Coriander seeds
5 cm Cinnamon stick
12 pieces Green cardamom pods, bruised
5 pieces Black cardamom pods, bruised
5 pieces Bay leaves
4 pieces Whole star anise
1 tbsp Black peppercorns
4 blades Mace
1/2 piece Nutmeg, broken
10 pieces Cloves

Method :

  • Put all the spices in a dry pan and heat over a very fire, shaking the pan from time to time.

  • Remove from heat when spices gives off a fragrance and allow to cool before grinding finely in a blender or a coffee mill.

  • Store in an airtight bottle. If stored in the freezer portion of the refrigerator, the spices keep fresh indefinitely.
