Cream Cheese Balls In Syrup Recipe

(rasgulla)

RECIPES OF INDIA

Soft homemade cream cheese or chenna is shaped into balls and simmered in syrup to make a simple but richly satisfying dessert. Silver leaf is sometimes used for decoration.

Ingredients

250 g Chenna (home-made cream cheese)
1 tsp Flour

The Syrup

1 kg Sugar
750 ml Water

Method :

  • Prepare the syrup by bringing the water and sugar to a boil and allow to cool and set aside.

  • Combine the chenna and flour and shape into balls.

  • Reheat syrup to boiling then add the balls and simmer for approx. 20 minutes.

  • Add 2 tablespoons of water to the syrup every 5 minutes to replace the water lost by evaporation; this is important to avoid having the syrup thickening.

  • When the balls are cooked, remove from the syrup, drain and keep covered in water until required

  • Serve with 2 tablespoons of the syrup poured over the top.
